Travel-sized models of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices are common for sleep apnea treatment. These include Philips Respironics DreamStation Go, ResMed AirMini, Somnetics Transcend, Human Nature Medical Z1 Apex XT Suit, and others.

What is the CPAP Travel Size?

The lithium-ion battery used by CPAP travel machines is rechargeable. Sadly, the machine can not be used until the power supply can be accessed. This may make it less than attractive to take it to the woods for a camping or hiking trip that lasts longer than a night or two.
Pros of Using Travel CPAP
Travel CPAP machines have certain characteristics that may make them an enticing choice to use when away from home. Many have similar design features that match regular versions. Some positive changes already have been made:
- It’s really quiet. Newer technology has resulted in machines that make almost no noise. This is a major step forward for older models and real for competing manufactures.
- Slimline tubes are elegant. Few systems have thinner slimline tubing that minimizes the size of the regular CPAP tubing. This makes it easy to pack up. It can also add some stability and increased mobility during sleep. - There are multiple mask options available for some models. The preferred mask can be used for normal tubing connectors. Unfortunately, AirMini requires only a small collection of masks (specifically, variations of the AirFit series) owing to the configuration of the humidifier. Each mask can be used with tubes used in other products. If you have a favorite mask, it could be a deal-maker.
- Integrated displays on certain versions allow analysis settings and data use a breeze. While the size is impacted, the digital interface on certain devices removes the need to use the mobile app. This makes it possible for sustainable equipment manufacturers, doctors, and consumers to make improvements. It’s always immediately sensitive to the touch.
- Get the charger to take it anywhere with you. Many models are planned to be fitted with an integrated battery. It’s safe to catch a plane without limitations.
Cons of Using Travel CPAP
There are some reasons why you do not want to try purchasing a travel CPAP. This can vary from comparatively mild nuisances to major drawbacks that may lead you to alternatives.
- Pressures cannot be reliably effective. Pressure variation and algorithm tolerance may mean that the system is not running well. This may require a narrower range and much higher pressures to be successful. As a consequence, you may need to pay more attention to early use. Setting up adjustments would require the feedback of your sleep doctor.
- There may not be a humidifier. This does not matter to people who have ceased using additional water. It could be a deal-breaker for those who have nosebleeds or a chronic dry mouth. If a nasal saline spray is insufficient to make up for the gap, the procedure can be affected by dryness.
