Frequently Asked Questions about the Lumin CPAP cleaner – User Guide
This is the Lumin CPAP Cleaner user Guide. This page is intended to help you with all of your post-purchase requirements.
How does the Lumin work?
The Lumin functions in a “line-of-sight” fashion, only cleaning and irradiating surfaces within its sightlines. If there is an increased necessity for disinfection, you can disassemble your mask prior to closing the drawer, or simply turn your water chamber, mask, or other item face down and run another cycle. For daily use, though, only one cycle
Does the Lumin use any ozone?
The Lumin is the only CPAP machine on the market to not use ozone! This also means that you do not require ventilation after cleaning, meaning you can move on to cleaning the next piece of equipment or getting to bed earlier.
Do I need to replace any parts?
UV bulb is the only part that could require replacement, but it is actually designed to last longer than the machine itself. Therefore, you may not need to replace any parts.
Does the Lumin release an odor of any sort?
Under normal conditions, the Lumin CPAP Cleaner should not emit any kind of odor. However, about 10% of users experience a trivial odor from time to time, which is similar to the smell of burnt hair. This is because dust is composed almost utterly of human cells, which have the potential to fall off into the drawer. UV light kills pathogens by destroying DNA with a high energy light, freeing sulfide molecules within the skin cells, and potentially causing a smell. If this occurs, please wash carefully with a wet cloth, using liquid detergent and drying with a paper towel. Run a single cycle with the drawer empty, then leave overnight. By the following day, the odor should disappear.
Is the Lumin safe?
Yes, the Lumin is extremely safe. While extended exposure to UV light isn’t healthy for your skin, there is an automatic shut off feature when the inner drawer is open that prevents the UV light from escaping.
What can I use the Lumin on?
While the Lumin is intended as a CPAP cleaning device, it can handle any item that can fit within its inner drawer. It is designed to fit most CPAP water chambers and masks, but can also disinfect many personal items. This includes your hearing aid, cell phone, dentures, oral appliance, toothbrush, and many more. While some hoses may be able to be disinfected, not all can as hoses varies significantly in shape, color, and size.
Once I run out of the sample wipes to pre-clean my Lumin with, what can I do?
While we do not carry any Lumin wipes, you can pre-clean your mask with the CPAP wipes. Pre-cleaning is a critical step to clean up any debris.
Will the Lumin cause any damage to my CPAP mask or accessories?
No, it will not. Although prolonged exposure to UV light can weaken plastics and silicone, the cycle time for the Lumin is a mere five minutes, making a year of daily use 30 hours of exposure time. As a study verified that the device does no damage to plastics or silicone in over 150 hours of testing, this means it would take more than five years to cause any damage to your mask, far longer than the mask’s lifespan.
Will the Lumin remove any physical debris left on my mask or water chamber when I place it inside?
No, the Lumin will not remove any visible fragments left on your equipment. For this reason, it is important that you wipe your mask and/or water chamber clean before placing them into the inner drawer of the Lumin.
Is an adapter required to use this with certain masks or machines?
No, an adapter is never needed to use the Lumin.
How is the Lumin used?
As a single button machine, it is about as easy as it gets. Simply clean the inside of your mask system or water chamber with a special CPAP wipe to remove physical debris. Then, open the chamber and place whatever you are cleaning face up. Close the drawer and press the button.
How long is the warranty on the Lumin?
The Lumin has a two-year warranty.
What is the Lumin Bullet?
The Lumin Bullet is an optional hose cleaner that can be bought separately from the Lumin CPAP Cleaner since the base unit will not properly clean CPAP hoses.
How long should one charge of the Lumin Bullet last for?
One charge should last for approximately thirty uses of the Lumin UV Hose Cleaner.
